SPUR publishes AI content tracking standard, courts OpenAI and Google

Digiday’s Sara Guaglione reports that SPUR, the publisher coalition including the Guardian, Financial Times, BBC and AP, has released its content telemetry standard for tracking how AI tools retrieve, cite and use publisher content.

Why it matters. Publishers gain a common framework for proving when AI systems use their content, giving them a data-backed starting point to negotiate licensing fees instead of relying on blocking alone.
